Nayland College has been serving the Nelson community for over 50 years. Over this time it has being a leader in developing inspirational learning programmes, nurturing students to reach their full potential and has placed a high value on developing independent, confident learners who have control of their own futures.

Nayland College is a co-educational High School of approximately 1400 students located just 7km from central Nelson and very close to Nelson airport and Tahuna Beach. It is well known for its outdoor activities, art and crafts. It is surrounded by three National Parks which offer golden beaches, water sports and alpine adventures.


Nayland College is at the heart of our local community. All our host families live around the College which allows all our students to walk or bike to school.

Nayland College is renowned for its outdoor education and marine biology programmes. Because of our location we are able to offer world class activities and real-world experiences in the three National Parks (Abel Tasman, Kahurangi and Nelson Lakes), rivers, seas, beaches and mountains that surround Nayland College.

Other subjects that are offered include: psychology, photography, dance, drama, music, hospitality, digital design, design and visual communication, painting, a range of technology subjects, fashion and design, biology, chemistry, physics, geography, history, business studies, economics, sociology, mathematics, Màori and many more…

Other activities occur outside class time and after school, such as: dance and drama clubs, theatre sports, orchestra, choirs, jazz, rock and concert bands, the environment club, debating and Journalism to mention some of them.

Many sports are also offered after school, including; football, volleyball, rugby, basketball, ultimate frisbee, futsal, netball, tennis to mention just a few.
