About the scholarship
A Scholarship for full-time masters enrolment in the Faculty of Arts by New Zealand citizens and permanent residents, up to $5,000.
The Scholarship was established in 2018 by Phil O’Reilly to honour the memory of his mother Jean O’Reilly, in recognition of her encouragement and support of his university study.
The intention of the Scholarship is to encourage and support masters level students to study global relationships and organisations (such as the OECD, the UN or the World Bank), including global public policy, governance and comparative public policy in an international context, particularly when New Zealand influences and is influenced by global public policy.
How To Apply
Please read the regulations carefully to be sure you are eligible to apply. Then click on the “Apply now” button and complete the online application form. We recommend you check the form early in case a reference or endorsement is required to support your application, and to familiarise yourself with the form. All sections (including request sections) must be completed by the closing date, which is midnight on the specified date (unless stated otherwise). We recommend you do not have two different scholarship applications open within the same browser.
Outcomes are determined by a selection committee and are usually notified around six weeks after the closing date.
What you receive
Up to $5,000 in total
Entry requirements
To take up and be paid the Scholarship, the candidate must be enrolled full-time in either a Master of Arts (MA) in Politics and International Relations, a Master of Conflict and Terrorism Studies (MCTS), a Master of Professional Studies (MProfStuds) in International Relations and Human Rights or a Master of Public Policy (MPP), studying global relationships and organisations (such as the OECD, the UN or the World Bank), global public policy, governance or comparative public policy in an international context, particularly where New Zealand influences or is influenced by global public policy. Students who are enrolled in a 180 point MCTS or MPP may be considered for the Scholarship for the final semester of study provided they are enrolled in the capstone dissertation for their programme in that semester. The Scholarship is tenable by students aged 35 years or under, who are citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand. The basis of selection will be academic merit as assessed by the grade point average (GPA) or grade point equivalent (GPE) calculated over the most recently completed qualifying programme, the relevance of the proposed research to the criteria at Regulation 3, and the quality of a written personal statement outlining the candidate’s study and career plans, and ambition to make an impact on public policy both in New Zealand and abroad. Successful candidates will have a minimum GPA/GPE of 7.00 (see Note I).
