About the scholarship
The Spring Prize for String Players was established in 1996 as a Scholarship before becoming a Prize in 2015. The Prize was a bequest of the late Joseph Bernard Spring, a violist associated with performing organisations in Auckland for many years. He was a member of the Auckland String Players (later the Symphonia, the precursor of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra). The main purpose of the Prize is to assist promising string players to further their performance studies at the University of Auckland.
