About the scholarship

The Prize was established in 2013 in memory of Waerete Norman, who taught Māori language and culture in the Department of Māori Studies at the University of Auckland. The main purpose of the Prize is to encourage and reward student achievement in the study of the literature and/or culture of wahine Māori at undergraduate or postgraduate level.
