About the scholarship
The Sagar-Vandewart Prize for String Players was established in 1976 as a Scholarship before becoming a Prize in 2015. The Prize was established by Mrs Dora Sagar in memory of her late husband, Professor Frederick Henry (Erick) Sagar. Over a period of 30 years Professor Sagar was active in his support of chamber music in the University and City of Auckland and also later throughout New Zealand by participation in the administration of the Music Federation of New Zealand. The value was increased in 2007 as the result of a gift from the Blaschke family in memory of Marie Blaschke, who taught at the University's School of Music. The main purpose of the Prize is to assist promising string players to further their performance studies at the University of Auckland.
