About the scholarship
To apply for this scholarship, please use the UC School-Leaver Scholarships 2023 application form. Applications open 20 June 2022 and close 15 August 2022.The purpose of this scholarship is to recognise leadership potential, involvement in community and cultural activities, and high academic achievement amongst intending first-year ?konga | students who have whakapapa M?ori at Te Whare W?nanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury. MaoriValue/Benefits:a. Financial assistance at a value of $6,000; andb. The opportunity to participate in the UC M?ori leadership programme, Paihere; andc. The opportunity to participate in a UC-sponsored general leadership programmeLevel of Study: School Leaver (First year undergraduate) Closing Date: 11:59 pm (NZT) 15 August (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date.) Tenure: One year Number Available Annually: Twenty, five of which are reserved for ?konga | students who have whakapapa Ng?i Tahu. Ngai TahuApplicable Enrolment During Tenure: The scholarship is tenable during full-time enrolment in the first year of any undergraduate degree programme at the University of Canterbury.Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Must be a citizen of Aotearoa New Zealand or Australia, or hold an Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visa, or be an international student studying at secondary level in New ZealandSpecial Requirements: Must have whakapapa M?oriFor more information, please read the regulations for this award: click here.Must have whakapapa M?ori and be:a citizen of Aotearoa New Zealand, or Australia; orhold an Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visa; oran international student studying at secondary level in New Zealand.Applicants must not have been enrolled in a degree programme at any tertiary institute.**Participation in STAR courses, community education courses offered by tertiary institutions, orientation or general interest programmes run by tertiary institutions for secondary school students does not preclude eligibility for this award.Selection will be based on:evidence of the applicant's participation and contribution to M?ori development within their wh?nau, hap?, or iwi, and/or community;involvement in community and/or cultural activities;quality of achievement at NCEA Level 2, or equivalent university entrance qualification (achievement must be at least NCEA Level 2 at Merit level, or equivalent);evidence of leadership potential; andstrategic objectives of the University of Canterbury.The Kaihautu Ka Waimaero | Director of the Ngai Tahu Research Centre (or nominee) makes recommendations for those scholarships considered for akonga | students who have whakapapa Ngai Tahu.
