About the scholarship

To apply for this scholarship, please use the UC School-Leaver Scholarships 2023 application form. Applications open 20 June 2022 and close 15 August 2022.The purpose of this scholarship is to recognise and support top-achieving international students who have completed, or are currently completing, a university-entrance qualification at a New Zealand secondary school, and will be commencing an undergraduate degree programme at the University of Canterbury.Value/Benefits: Financial assistance with tuition fees, at a value of $15,000Level of Study: School Leaver (First year undergraduate)Closing Date: 11:59 pm (NZT) 15 August (applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date)Tenure: One yearNumber Available Annually: Up to 10 Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: The scholarship is tenable during full-time enrolment in a first year of a programme for an undergraduate degree at the University of CanterburyCitizenship/Residency Requirements: Must be a full-fee paying international student. May not be a citizen of Aotearoa New Zealand or Australia, hold an Aotearoa New Zealand residence class visa, or be a Permanent Resident of AustraliaSpecial Requirements: Applicants must have completed, or be completing, a University Entrance qualification (or equivalent), and have studied at secondary level in Aotearoa New Zealand in the year of application (or in the previous year if they are on a gap year)For more information, please read the regulations for this award: click here.Applicants must have completed, or be completing, a University Entrance qualification (or equivalent), and have studied at secondary level in Aotearoa New Zealand in the year of application (or in the previous year if they are on a gap year). Please refer to the regulations for further details.Applicants, by the closing date for the round in which they are applying, must have applied for admission to the University. The scholarship is not tenable by students who have already undertaken partial study in an undergraduate degree programme at a New Zealand tertiary institution.Selection will be based on:quality of academic achievement; andcharacter, and evidence of leadership potential, and of involvement in cultural, sport, and/or community activities; andfinancial circumstances; andstrategic objectives of the University.If, during the tenure of a scholarship, a recipient?s immigration status changes so that they are no longer a full-fee-paying international student and thereby obtain a partial refund of academic fees from the University, the scholarship is withdrawn, and any scholarship money paid since the status change was recorded at the University is refunded to the University.
