About the scholarship
To apply for this scholarship, please use the UC School-Leaver Scholarships 2023 application form. Applications open 20 June 2022 and close 15 August 2022.The purpose of this scholarship is to support undergraduate students of English or History at the University of Canterbury. Value/Benefits: Financial assistance at a value of $2,000 per annum for three years Level of Study: School Leaver (First year undergraduate) Closing Date: 11:59 pm (NZT) 15 August (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date) Tenure: Three years Number Available Annually: One Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: The scholarship is tenable during full-time or part-time enrolment in an undergraduate degree programme, with a major in either English or History, at the University of Canterbury Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Not applicable Special Requirements: Applicants must be under 19 years of age on the previous 1 December and have resided continuously within the territory of the Canterbury Regional Council for at least the 12 months preceding the closing date for applications.For more information, please read the regulations for this award: click here.Applicants must:be under 19 years of age on the previous 1 December; andhave resided continuously in the territory of the Canterbury Regional Council for at least the 12 months preceding the closing date for applications.Selection will be based on:academic achievement in NCEA Level 2, or equivalent university entrance qualification, in both English and History.The scholarship was established in 1925 at Canterbury University College by the trustees of the estate of Lissie Rathbone, who had bequeathed one half of her residuary estate for such charitable, educational, or religious objects as the trustees should select. The trustees established similar scholarships at the other colleges of the University of New Zealand.
