About the scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to enable New Zealanders to study international relationships or social and economic conditions at a university overseas. Candidates will be planning to study at Master's or PhD level.This scholarship is offered by Universities New Zealand (UNZ) and applications can be made on their website by following the link below.Value/Benefits: Financial assistance with the costs associated with university study, to a value of $12,000 per annum for up to two years for Master's, or up to three years for Doctoral (PhD) Level of Study: Master's; Doctoral Closing Date: 1 April (NZT) (via the UNZ website) Tenure: Up to two years for Master's. Up to three years for Doctoral (PhD) Number Available Annually: One (conditional on sufficient funding being available) Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Please refer to the regulations Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Must be a citizen of New Zealand, or hold a New Zealand residence class visa For more information, or to apply, click here.Applicants must:have graduated with or be graduating with an Honours or Masters degree in arts, science, commerce, law or divinity from a New Zealand universitybe New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.The intent of this scholarship is that applicants will not yet have studied abroad and will be applying for enrolment in a research Masters degree or a PhD at an overseas university in Europe, Asia or the USA.Please note that to be eligible a planned Masters degree must have a substantial research component, i.e. at least half.The funds for this scholarship are provided by the income from a bequest made in 1951 by Isabel Evelyn Spencer Watson to the University of New Zealand. The scholarship is a memorial to her nephew, Clement Gordon Watson.
