About the scholarship

To apply for this scholarship, please use the UC School-Leaver Scholarships 2023 application form. Applications open 20 June 2022 and close 15 August 2022.This scholarship supports students from T?maki Makaurau Auckland and Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington in their first year of study at Te Whare W?nanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury while residing at University Hall.  Value/Benefits:a. Assistance with fees for fully catered accommodation at University Hall, at a value of $5,000, and priority consideration for a place at the hall.b. At no cost, educational outdoor recreational field trips in Waitaha Canterbury, organised by the University.c. At no cost, a range of workshops and seminars organised by the University for personal, academic, and professional development.d. Experience of and contribution to the ?tautahi Christchurch regeneration, and engagement with the ?tautahi Christchurch community through membership of Te Hunga T?ao | Student Volunteer Army and through small-group projects.Level of Study: School Leaver (First year undergraduate) Closing Date: 11:59 pm (NZT) 15 August (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date.) Tenure: One year Number Available Annually: 150, up to five of which are reserved for international students. Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: The scholarship is tenable during full-time enrolment for a full year in any programme at the University. The scholarship must be taken up in Semester One of the year following the year of application.Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Not applicable Special Requirements: In the year of application (or in the previous year if on a gap year), applicants must be attending a T?maki Makaurau Auckland or Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington school and/or living in the T?maki Makaurau Auckland or Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington region. For more information, please read the regulations for this award: click here.Applicants must be Year-13 students, or on a gap year.Applicants, in the year of application (or, in the case of gap year applicants, in the previous year), must be either attending a T?maki Makaurau Auckland or Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington school, or living in the T?maki Makaurau Auckland or Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington region.* At the time of application, applicants must have gained NCEA Level 2 with Merit or Excellence endorsement, or equivalent.By the date advertised on the webpage for UC halls of residence and villages, applicants must:a. complete the separate UC Application for Accommodation online form, selecting University Hall as their first preference for accommodation; andb. complete the New Zealand Common Confidential Reference Form.*For the purposes of this scholarship, T?maki Makaurau Auckland is defined as the territory of Te Kaunihera o T?maki Makaurau | Auckland Council unitary authority, and Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington is defined as the territory of the Greater Wellington Regional Council (see here for more details on the regions).Selection will be based on:potential to benefit from a Te Whare W?nanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury education; academic achievement at NCEA Level 2, or equivalent university entrance qualification (achievement must be at NCEAL Level 2 Merit or Excellence level, or equivalent); andpotential to benefit from the development opportunities offered by the scholarship.Applicants are required to provide a confidential reference in support of these selection criteria.The scholarship cannot be used to pay the accommodation application fee or the hall deposit.
