About the scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to enable distinguished New Zealand school students to undertake a degree course at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. Scholarship a candidate must:be a New Zealand citizen, one of whose parents must have been a New Zealand citizen at the time of the applicant's birthhave completed no fewer than 8 years of schooling in New Zealand, and be completing Year 13 at a New Zealand school in the year of applicationbe a candidate for one or more Year 13 senior school examinations - NCEA Level 3, New Zealand Scholarship, CIE A levels, or International Baccalaureate.The Worshipful Company of Girdlers can trace its foundation to medieval times as a guild or fraternity of craftsmen. While retaining its association with the trades and government of the City of London, it is now concerned with charitable works and the fellowship of its members.The Company has had an association with New Zealand since 1933 and in 1952 resolved to set aside part of its income for the purpose of a scholarship to enable distinguished New Zealand school students to undertake a degree course at either Oxford or Cambridge. It is now specifically Corpus Christi College, Cambridge.The value of the award is up to ?35,000 per annum which is intended to cover university and college fees, and some living expenses1 (but not flights).The maximum tenure of the award is three or four years depending on the length of the course. Degrees in medicine are not eligible for the scholarship.During their residence at Cambridge, the Scholars? personal wellbeing and academic progress will be monitored by members of the Girdlers' Company through visits each term to Corpus Christi, by discussions with the Senior Tutor and other members of the Faculty and through meetings at Girdlers? Hall in London at such times as the Scholars are invited to attend various functions hosted there.
