About the scholarship
This scholarship offers financial support to a promising UC student to continue studying Economics in a research-based degree at the postgraduate level at Te Whare W?nanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury. Value/Benefits:a. $5,000Level of Study during Tenure: Postgraduate; Honours; Master's Closing Date: 11:59 pm (NZT) 1 November (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date.) Tenure: One year Number Available Annually: OneApplicable Enrolment During Tenure: Full-time enrolment in a programme for either a research-based honours degree in Economics or a research-based master?s degree in Economics. During his tenure he served as the Head of the Department of Economics, as the Dean of Arts, and on key committees of the Professorial Board, including as the Chair of the Library Committee. Upon his retirement he chronicled the history of Economics at the University in 125 Years of Economic Studies at Canterbury, New Zealand (1879?2003). As a colleague, teacher, and mentor, Frank Tay commanded deep respect. The funds for this scholarship derive exclusively from donations by former students and colleagues. The scholarship fund drive was initiated to mark the centenary of the University?s Economics (and Finance) Department in 2021.
