About the scholarship
The scholarship supports postgraduate students in Astronomy and Astrophysics at Te Whare W?nanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury. Value/Benefits: Financial assistance at a value of at least $2,500Level of Study: Master's (Part II only); Doctoral Closing Date: 5:00 pm (NZT) 15 October (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date) Tenure: Up to 120 points of enrolment Number Available Annually: One Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Full-time or part-time postgraduate study in Astronomy or Astrophysics: either in a programme for a PhD or in Part II of a programme for an MSc degree.Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Not applicable For more information, please read the regulations for this award: click here.The scholarship was established in 2013 in memory of Frank Maine Bateson OBE (1907?2007) and his wife Doris Bateson, and is funded from a 2007 bequest from the estate of Mr Bateson. Mr Bateson was a driving force in Aotearoa New Zealand Astronomy, and was responsible for setting up Aotearoa New Zealand?s only professional astronomical research observatories. He is regarded as the father of Astronomy in Aotearoa New Zealand.If it is necessary for their research, recipients, with the permission of the Amo Rangahau | Dean of Postgraduate Research (in the case of PhD students) or the Amo P?taiao | Academic Dean of Science (in the case of master?s students), may retain the scholarship while carrying out research for limited periods outside Te Whare W?nanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury.This scholarship supports postgraduate students in Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Canterbury.
