About the scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students or former students of the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts to further their study by visiting other countries. Value/Benefits: Financial assistance with the costs associated with university study, to a value of up to $10,000. The value and tenure of the scholarship shall be determined by the Council of the University of Canterbury on a case-by-case basis Level of Study: Postgraduate Closing Date: 5:00 pm (NZT) 1 November (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date) Tenure: Varies, but shall not normally exceed two years Number Available Annually: Varies Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Please refer to the regulations Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Not applicable For more information please read the regulations, click here.An applicant for the scholarship shall:be a student at the School of Fine Arts who has achieved excellence in studio courses especially in original composition*; andsubmit a detailed study proposal, including the purpose of the work to be undertaken; andstate how the study proposal relates to previous studio achievements and how it is likely to benefit the applicant in the future.The scholarship shall be open to anyone who has satisfactorily completed at least one term's study at the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts in a studio course, although the award will normally be made to students who are close to completion of, or who have completed with the last two years, a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours (BFA(Hons)) or Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree.For the purposes of the award, ‘original composition’ incorporates all work submitted to satisfy the requirements for any studio course of study offered at the School of Fine Arts.The scholarship is not tenable within New Zealand.The purpose of the Ethel Susan Jones Travelling Scholarship shall be to assist students or former students of the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts to further their study by visiting other countries.
