Colin was a champion mooter at UC?s School of Law, competing in both national and international competitions, including on behalf of Aotearoa New Zealand. Colin strongly believed that mooting provided a solid foundation for learning the important art of advocacy. After graduating with first class honours, Colin clerked for Sir Robert Chambers at the Court of Appeal and was awarded the Cleary Memorial Prize in 2009 for being that year?s young lawyer who showed the most promise of service to the legal profession. Colin completed his master?s at Harvard Law School, with a focus on class action litigation and reforms to civil procedure, before returning to Auckland to practise competition and regulatory law at Chapman Tripp. He was an enthusiastic judge of the Auckland Law School moot rounds ? supporting and mentoring junior lawyers being a hugely enjoyable part of his professional life. Colin died in 2019, and, by establishing this prize, Colin?s family, friends, and colleagues honour his memory and significant contribution to the profession.
