About the scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to support students who have completed the requirements to graduate with an MSc, BSc(Hons) or bachelor's degree from a New Zealand university and who intend to carry out research or postgraduate study in one of the sciences at the University of Canterbury. Value/Benefits: Financial assistance with the costs associated with university study, at a value of $1,000 Level of Study: Postgraduate, Master's, PhD Closing Date: 11:59 pm (NZT) 1 November (Applications open approximately 8 weeks before this date)Tenure: Typically one year (please see the regulations for more details) Number Available Annually: One Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: Full-time or part-time enrolment in a research or postgraduate degree at the University of Canterbury Citizenship/Residency Requirements: Not applicable For more information please read the regulations, click here.The scholarship will be available to applicants who intend to conduct research or postgraduate study, either full-time or part-time, at the University of Canterbury, and who have completed the requirements to graduate from a university in New Zealand with one of the following qualifications:a Master of Science degree (MSc)a Bachelor of Science with Honours degree (BSc(Hons))a bachelor's degreePreference will be given to applicants who have completed the requirements to graduate with an MSc or a BSc(Hons) and who intend to carry out research in one of the sciences. Further preference will be given to applicants who intend to complete at least 1.00 EFTS (Equivalent Full Time Student, with 1.00 EFTS equating to one year of full-time study) of study at the University of Canterbury.Selection will be based on:academic achievement.This scholarship was established in 1919, by Old Boys of the Melville House and Warwick House Schools, Christchurch, in memory of Charles Cook, Founder and Head Master of the Schools.The scholarship will be tenable for the period necessary for a student to complete 1.00 EFTS (the equivalent of one year of full-time study), or for the period necessary for the recipient to complete his or her proposed course of study, whichever is the shorter.This scholarship supports postgraduate research by students studying at the University of Canterbury.
