Woodhouse Scholars Programme

About the provider

The Woodhouse Scholars Programme has been established by South Pacific Sera Limited to honour the memory of Lieutenant Colonel Dr Philip Randal Woodhouse OBE, DSO, MC (and Bar) of Blue Cliffs Station, St Andrews, South Canterbury.

In February 2013 the Governor General, His Excellency Lieutenant General The Right Honourable Sir Jerry Mateparae, visited Timaru and South Pacific Sera Limited.

While he was here the Governor General announced a new Scholarship programme specifically designed for South Canterbury secondary school students and undergraduates enrolled in bio-science courses at the three South Island universities.

Dr Woodhouse was a keen student of agricultural science and innovation.  His improvements on Blue Cliffs Station, and through the local catchment board, set an example for sustainable management which led best practice for South Canterbury hill farmers.

Today SPS Ltd is at the forefront of applied bioscience in New Zealand and we believe we have a responsibility and an opportunity to open up local career paths for young people wishing to be involved in science and innovation in South Canterbury.
