Ara Institute of Canterbury is a vibrant, progressive, government-funded tertiary institute providing world-class, tertiary-level education throughout the Canterbury and Waitaki region. Ara was created in 2016 when education providers CPIT and Aoraki Polytechnic merged, bringing together two well-established organisations and over 200 years of collective experience and success. Our talented staff, innovative business collaborators and supportive community partners are passionate about the role they play in our students' success. Together, we're committed to equipping every student with the industry-relevant knowledge, skills and experience they need to get the job they want and to excel in it.
Christchurch City Campus
The City campus is main campus of Ara Institute located in the heart of Christchurch city.
Christchurch Woolston Campus
Construction and refurbishment work at Woolston campus is now complete. We have worked closely with government and industry partners to create modern, flexible learning environments that mirror industry environments and facilitate flexible learning.
The Ashburton campus is located west of the town centre, within walking distance from the town's shopping area, supermarkets, department stores and recreational facilities. Ashburton is a thriving rural town about one hour's drive south of Christchurch and is a great place for recreational pursuits, with ski fields, lakes and reserves a short distance away.
The Oamaru campus is centrally located, one block east of Oamaru's main thoroughfare, Thames Street. It is in short walking distance from the town's shopping area, supermarkets, department stores, coffee shops, and historic precinct.
We have a large campus in Timaru with modern facilities and quality services for students. The Timaru region offers an amazing range of leisure, cultural, sporting and adventure opportunities.
