Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) is a Government Institute with campuses in Nelson and Marlborough.

NMIT is a New Zealand Qualifications Authority Category 1 (the highest) Institute.

Nelson Campus

Our main campus which is located in Nelson's vibrant city centre.

The heart of the city

The Nelson campus location means quick and easy access to the cafés, bars and shopping in Nelson city. You’re never far from anywhere - whether it’s quality urban time you’re after, or a break in one of the many city parks and public spaces nearby. Getting around is a breeze, especially on a bike, or using the public bus system.

Vibrant onsite student life

Our Nelson campus is based on a single city block and is an open and easy to navigate environment.

Enjoy the on-campus Cafe Ake Ake, relax with a coffee in our park-like campus grounds, grab a couple of mates for a game of table tennis in the recreation centre or get your blood pumping on the basketball court or AstroTurf sports area.

Services available to the general public

Student and the general public are welcome to make an appointment at Head Zone or Beauty Zone, our on-site training salons for Hairdressing and Beauty and Body Therapy. Or book a table at the Rata Room restaurant where you will be served by our Hospitality and Cookery students.

Marlborough Campus

Nestled among mountain ranges, fertile plains, intricate waterways and thriving aviation, aquaculture and viticulture industries, our Marlborough campus delivers real world learning at its finest.

Big things do happen on small campuses

About 20 minutes walk from Blenheim city centre, our attractive Marlborough Campus offers Viticulture, Aviation and other programmes that support local industry. While the Marlborough Campus is the smaller of NMIT's main campuses, you will benefit from our on-site vineyard, a world-class wine research centre, library and café.

Study in a world-class winemaking region

Marlborough is famous around the world for its Sauvignon Blanc. This region produces 77% of the country’s grape harvest with over 168 wine producers and 568 independent growers. It’s the perfect base to receive training in Viticulture supported by our state-of-the-art winery, laboratories, onsite vineyard and sensory wine tasting room.

Gain skills in Aviation at a national air force base

If training in Aviation is your calling, you will be pleased to hear that a good percentage of your time will be spent at the RNZAF Woodbourne air force base in Blenheim. Our NMIT Aircraft Maintenance and Engineering programmes are practical and hands-on. Feel part of your chosen industry from the get go.

Richmond Campus

Located on Lower Queen Street, the Richmond Campus is NMIT’s most recent campus addition. Just 10 minutes-walk from the suburbs busy shopping centre.

About Richmond Campus

Location

Located on Lower Queen Street, the Richmond Campus is NMIT’s most recent campus addition. Just 10 minutes-walk from the suburbs busy shopping centre, its home to NMIT’s horticulture, carpentry, maritime, firefighting training and Kaitiaki Whenua Trainee Ranger programmes. Trades Academy and Foundation Studies (TAFS) are also taught here to local college students on Friday’s.

Facilities

Facilities include two glasshouses, a working garden, carpentry barn and firefighting training unit.

Café style food and barista coffee are available during week days from the student operated food truck located in the carpark.

Transport

The Campus is easily accessible from Motueka, Mapua and Moutere by car or a 15-minute drive from central Nelson via car or NBus.

Woodbourne Campus

Located 8km west of Blenheim, The Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) Base Woodbourne Campus is home to NMIT’s aircraft maintenance and engineering programmes.

Location

The NMIT “Into-Employment” aeronautical engineering programme is designed to provide the skills and knowledge needed for a successful career in the commercial aeronautical engineering industry.

NMIT is New Zealand's first approved New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority (NZCAA) Part 147 Certified Maintenance Training Organisation.

Facilities

Campus facilities include an NMIT 3 bay workshop, RNZAF machine workshop and a number of other purpose-built teaching facilities.

Students utilise the on-site facilities to put their theoretical knowledge into practice by working on a series of real aircraft.

Transport

It’s a short 5-minute drive to NMIT’s Marlborough Campus. Buses are also available from Blenheim.
