About the course

This 20 week programme is aimed at individuals who are interested in a career in welding and wish to enter the industry as professional welders.

The Level 3 course offers entry level learners the opportunity to learn all the various aspects and applications of welding theory and practice as well as health and safety.

  • Self Funding:
    • Level 3 - $4334.64
    • Level 4 - $4892.98

Entry requirements

  • No previous welding experience needed. 
  • All Students must be 16 years of age or over.
  • All Students must have NCEA Level 1
  • Applicants must be fit and able to carry out the physical requirements of the welding industry.
  • Applicants should have a desire to pathway onto further study or start a career.
  • Students must have successfully completed the Level 3 course before starting the Level 4 course.

Our History

The Welding Academy was established in Christchurch in December 1998 and was registered with NZQA on 1 May 1999. We became an NZQA Category 1 training provider in 2018.

Expansion plans in 2019 resulted in us moving from our previous site on Shakespeare Road to our current site on Lismore Street, Waltham.

In 2021 The Welding Academy became part of the CC Group and with a significant investment, which is ongoing, The Welding Academy continues to grow to meet the demands for welding training in New Zealand.
