About the course
Graduates of the NMIT Certificate in Vocational Skills will have basic literacy, language, numeracy, communication and practical work skills equivalent to Level 1 (Supported Learning) on the New Zealand Qualification Framework. Graduates will have an understanding of their learning style and
ability to identify career pathways that are relevant to them. They will understand the process of applying for a job and the importance of being able to communicate effectively. They will have learned practical, useful skills for application in realistic semi-skilled part-time jobs, e.g. garden nursery assistant, commercial cleaning, shelf stocker, kitchen hand Graduates who have
successfully completed this programme will also have the following skills. They will: Be able to work independently and make their own choices; Be able to adapt easily to changing employment and residential situations; Have a realistic perception of their own skills, interests and abilities on which to base future goals; Have an improved level of communication that can be used in a variety of work and community situations; Have an awareness of realistic work options and
ways to access support into new work situations; Be able to participate successfully in a variety of work, social and community settings; Potentially be able to pathway to further study
