About the course

This qualification is for people who are required to work as a qualified engineer on large commercial vessels of any size on local or international voyages. Graduates of the Certificate in Marine Engineer Class 3 will have the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to operate and maintain safely, vessel engines, auxiliary equipment and vessel systems on board any vessel. It provides a pathway to the higher level Maritime New Zealand qualification, Maritime New Zealand Certificate of Competency Marine Engineer Class 2. Holders of the Certificate in Marine Engineer Class 3 will be qualified to apply for the Maritime New Zealand Marine Engineer Class 3 qualification. This is an internationally recognised qualification and will provide employment opportunities as engineer on any foreign going vessel or New Zealand vessel of any size operating anywhere in the world.
