Certificate in NZ Offshore Watchkeeper (NZOW)

This qualification is for people who are required to work as a qualified Master of a commercial fishing vessel under 20 metres in length, and as Mate of a range of commercial vessels in New Zealand coastal and offshore waters. Graduates of the Certificate in NZ Offshore Watchkeeper will have the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to safely operate as Master of a of a commercial fishing vessel under 20 metres in length, and as Mate of a range of commercial vessels in New Zealand coastal and offshore waters. It provides a pathway to higher level NMIT maritime qualifications such as the Certificate in New Zealand Offshore Master or students can progress straight to the Diploma in Mate of a Deep Sea Fishing Vessel. Holders of the Certificate in NZ Offshore Watchkeeper will be qualified to apply for the Maritime New Zealand New Zealand Offshore Watchkeeper qualification. This will provide employment opportunities as Master of fishing vessels under 20 metres, or Mate of commercial vessels within the New Zealand tourism, fishing, maritime transport and aquaculture industries which operate within the offshore waters limits.
