About the course
The purpose of this qualification is to recognise the skills and knowledge necessary to perform the role of a seafood processor on a commercial fishing vessel.<br /><br />The standards in this qualification cover:<br />. the Maritime Safety Authority's minimum safety requirements for seafood vessel operations including abandon ship procedures, safe suppression of fire; and sea survival techniques;<br />. knowledge and control of seafood spoilage;<br />. safe and hygienic work practices in the seafood industry;<br />. handling seafood to customer specifications;<br />. knowledge of protection of the marine environment during seafood vessel operations.<br /><br />The elective in this qualification allows further credits to be selected to meet the candidate's work requirements.<br /><br />This qualification provides a pathway to the level 3 National Certificate in Seafood Vessel Operations (Nautical Skills) (Level 3) [Ref: 1153].
