About the course

Get your career in automotive engineering off to the best start

This automotive qualification is designed to give you all the fundamental knowledge required to start work in the industry. This is achieved through a combination of the theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on tasks similar to the daily tasks undertaken in the industry.

The programme covers workplace policies, procedures and relevant regulations to work safely and effectively in an automotive workshop. You'll learn how to use tools and equipment to complete basic workshop engineering taskts, apply fundamental automotive engineering knowledge to service engines, steering, suspension, brake and driveline systems. You'll also learn how to check the operation of, and perform minor repairs on, electrical and electronic systems.

If you are a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident, complete an Admission and Enrolment form and Ara will contact you regarding a free assessment.
If you are not a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent resident, book an IELTS, Pearson or other test through the Ara Examination Centre or in your home country.

IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS test report form and are valid for two years from the date of the test.

What if I have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance?

You do not need to provide additional evidence of English Language skills.
