About the course
This 150-point programme combines the flexibility of online learning with two extended practical placements. Through your placements, you will benefit from being part of a school community, learning alongside experienced teachers and building knowledge of effective teaching practices through observation and participation in the classroom.
Throughout this programme, you will explore holistic mokopuna development, specialist STEM curriculum, Māori-medium educational leadership, and culturally responsive assessment practices that integrate mātauranga Māori with contemporary approaches. You will develop skills to teach effectively through te reo Māori while gaining theoretical and practical experience. The programme aims to produce educators to meet diverse needs in Kaupapa Māori and Māori-medium settings.
Wānanga sessions are offered twice per semester providing opportunities for immersive learning, reflection, and collaboration. Those with an appropriate undergraduate degree will be given the opportunity to specialise in a STEM subject at wharekura level through differentiated online content, assignments and wānanga with curriculum experts.
