About the course
Are you a natural problem solver? Do you have an interest in learning how motor vehicles work, and how to service and repair them? If you answered yes to these questions then studying the New Zealand Certificate in Automotive Engineering could be the course for you. This pre-employment qualification is designed to give you fundamental knowledge of motor vehicle’s their systems and how they operate. On successful completion, you will have the necessary skills to move into the Automotive Industry at an entry-level position and to begin an industry apprenticeship. SIT offers two different Strands for this qualification: Heavy Automotive – Is suitable for those who wish to work in the Road Transport, Plant and Equipment, Agricultural Equipment, and Materials Handling Industries with equipment like: Trucks, Tractors and earth moving equipment.Light Automotive – is suitable for those who wish to work in the Automotive Electrical, Light Vehicles, Motorcycles and Small Engines Industries with equipment like: Motorcycles, Cars and utes.This course will help you explore different industry sectors such as:Road TransportPlant and EquipmentAgricultural EquipmentMaterial Handling EquipmentYou’ll learn to:Follow workplace policies, procedures, and regulationsUse tools and equipment to complete basic workshop engineering tasksService engines and driveline systemsPerform minor repairs on electrical and electronic systemsService steering, suspension, and brake systems
