About the course
Southern Institute of Technology in collaboration with Murihiku Regeneration and MSD have developed a whānau-centred approach for ākonga/rangatahi preparing for transition to employment. This programme puts rangatahi/whānau at the centre – building an understanding of who they are, their aspirations, values and vision, and their context – so that rangatahi and pakeke can create a plan for their pathway that is unique to them. The programme is also relevant for adults seeking a second chance in education and is underpinned by a Mātauranga Māori approach.
The 7 to 8 week Trades version of this programme will introduce you to a range of trades related industry roles and activities including site visits to a range of employers. Toward the end of the programme, pathway specific training will be identified to help make your transition to work easier and job brokering support will be provided to help you take that next step.
*Note – If you are currently receiving a Benefit from MSD, this is not affected by enrolling into this programme.
The aims of the Kia Tū - Pathway Planning micro-credential Trades programme are for rangatahi and second-chance learners to:
- Research and understand their background, identity and culture.
- Develop a coherent sense of work and life direction.
- Understand the education and training pathway needed to achieve their preferred work and life direction
- Develop the ability to present their pathway plan to whanau, family and other supports
- Progress to undertake key training required for their pathway
Entry requirements
Must be over 16 years old, not in education or employment.
