Academic Requirements
There are no minimum academic entry requirements for this Training Scheme.
As there are no formal entry criteria, all applicants are interviewed before being accepted on to the Training Schemes. Because of the nature of the interview and the information considered, interviewees are encouraged to have whanau and/or professional support and the interviewing panel consists of at least one tutor with specific expertise in teaching people with intellectual disabilities and learning difficulties.
Decisions made in the interview process revolve around motivation to participate in the course, interpersonal behaviour and ensuring the programme can meet the individual needs of the learners given the scope of support that is available. A decision on acceptance or non-acceptance will be made after the interview and the learner or their support party will be notified.
At this interview, the following information would be sought:
- Age and maturity
- Motivational level
- The benefits of the learner attending the programme
- The needs of the learner while attending the programme
English Language Requirements
Those students whose first language is not English will have:
An International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall Academic score of 5 is required (with no band less than 5) issued within the last 2 years or equivalent.
Other requirements
Applicants must be:
- At least 16 years of age
- A citizen or permanent resident of New Zealand, or have a valid visa to study in New Zealand
