Ko te aronga matua o tēnei hōtaka, he āwhina i a koe ki te whakapakari i tō māia ki te kōrero Māori i te ia rā—ahakoa kei te kāinga, kei te wāhi mahi, kei te marae, kei te hapori rānei. Ko tō mātou whāinga ko te hoatu i ngā taputapu ki te whakaputa noa i ō whakaaro i ngā horopaki huhua, me te whakahōhonu hoki i tō mārama ki te reo.

Ka whakawhanake koe i ngā pūkenga ki te aro ki ngā tauira reo matatini ake, ā, ka hāneanea ake te kōrero Māori. Ka whakatutukihia tēnei mā ngā akomanga pāhekoheko, ngahau hoki, mā ngā rauemi ā-ipurangi, ngā wānanga noho rumaki, ā, tērā pea ka whai wāhi hoki ngā haerenga ki ngā tūtohu whenua e noho mātotoru ana te ahurea Māori.

Ko ngā wānanga noho rumaki tētahi āhuatanga pārekareka. Ka whai wāhi koe ki te whakaharatau i te reo Māori i tētahi taiao rumaki, e hāngai pū ana ki te ahurea Māori. Ka uru atu koe ki ngā tūranga maha i roto i tētahi taiao tautoko, hei whakapūmau i te reo, hei whakapakari hoki i tō māia ki te whakamahi i te reo i te ao tūturu.

Entry requirements

Academic Requirements

12 credits in NCEA Level 2 Te Reo Māori OR NZ3046 Te Pokaitahi Reo (Rumaki, Reo Rua) (Te Kaupae 4) – NZ Certificate in Te Reo Māori (Level 4) or equivalent

Alternative Requirements

Applicants who do not meet the academic entry requirements but can demonstrate relevant skills through study, work, or life experience may be considered for alternative entry. This may include Recognition of Prior Learning. Contact NMIT for guidance.

English Requirements

If English is not your first language, you must provide evidence of English proficiency through an approved test or qualification listed on the English Proficiency Outcomes Chart. New Zealand citizens or permanent residents without evidence can contact NMIT for an assessment. IELTS 5.5 Academic (no subtest lower than 5.0). Refer to the English Proficiency Outcomes Chart for other accepted options.

Selection Process

Applicants who meet the entry requirements will be accepted into the programme in the order that completed applications are received.
