About the course

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the tourism and travel industries with individuals who can contribute to the effective implementation of processes in the tourism industry and proactively support and enhance the visitor experience, and through their skills and knowledge uphold the importance of tourism to the New Zealand economy. The qualification will benefit the community by enhancing New Zealand's tourism visitor experiences and bringing economic benefits to the country.

Graduates will be able to deliver, and assist in supporting the delivery of, a quality visitor experience across a range of organisations in the tourism and travel industries. Their applied skills and knowledge will require taking full responsibility for the nature, quantity and quality of outcomes, and they may also have some responsibility for the management of learning and performance of others.

Indigenous values of manaakitanga and whanaungatanga in relation to travel and tourism may be encompassed in the holistic outcomes of this qualification.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 14 NCEA numeracy credits at Level 1 or higher and 50 credits at Level 2 or above with at least 12 credits in each of 3 subjects, including a minimum of 8 literacy credits at Level 2 or higher; or Tertiary study; or Successful completion of a Level 3 or Level 4 qualification in tourism and travel Equivalent overseas qualification; and IELTS 5.5 with no band below 5.0 / TOEFL iBT 46 (with a writing score of 14) / PToE academic score of 42 / AIS Test of English Proficiency (TEP) 48/80 (with no band less than 11) (approved countries only); and 17 years and over
