NZQF Level 2

About the course

From garden to plate, you too can feed your whānau, save on your budget and enjoy the delicious taste of home-grown success.

You will learn basic gardening techniques from seed germination to growing and harvesting, how to set up a vegetable garden, and how to plant and manage fruit trees. You'll also learn how to feed your plants and soil, make natural fertilisers, prune fruit trees, and more!

It doesn't matter if growing vegetables and fruit trees are all new to you. Your friendly tutor will guide you at your own pace so that you can enjoy getting your hands in the dirt and understand the simple ways to grow your own food. Our approach will look at sustainable methods focusing on water management, soil care and garden ecosystems.

You will cover the following three courses over six months; each will run for two months with a break in between.

  • Vegetable gardening
  • Horticultural practises
  • Home orchard growing with a focus on fruit and trees

As part of this programme, you will also learn safe work practices and basic first aid. Handy for home or if you want to work in the horticulture industry.
