Master of Applied Management

About the course

The Master of Applied Management is aimed at management practitioners and recent graduates (domestic and international), wishing to undertake an advanced programme of study in order to prepare for further study or to assist with obtaining a more senior position. Public and private sector organisations employing graduates of the Master of Applied Management will benefit from the advanced knowledge and capabilities (including analytical, managerial and research) that the graduates have acquired during their programme of study.

Master of Applied Management students will undertake a coherent programme of 180 credits approved by the Programme Manager with the following pathway:

Both of these compulsory Papers:

MGT804 Research methodology and Proposal – 30 credits

The student will prepare a research proposal for a relevant topic in applied management, including reviewing relevant literature, formulating a methodology and completing an ethics application.

MGT910 Research Project – 60 credits

The student will develop expertise in conducting applied research that informs professional practice in management.  

Plus 90 credits from the following elective papers:

MGT805 Applied Management – 30 credits

The student will develop knowledge and skills in undertaking strategic analysis, formulating strategy appropriate to an organisation’s internal and external environment and measuring the impact of the implemented strategy to improve efficiency and productivity.

MGT806 International Management – 30 credits

The student will critically examine key aspects of management practice in a global environment, will be able to identify and evaluate trends of globalisation, and recommend a strategy for international business expansion.

MGT807 Sustainable Business Practices – 30 credits

The student will develop knowledge and skills in analysing and assessing contemporary issues in sustainable business practices.  Specific focus will be on the economic, environmental, social and cultural costs of doing business.

MGT827 Applied Marketing – 30 credits

The student will develop knowledge and skills in developing, implementing and managing marketing strategies that are effective in creating customer value, long-term profitability, and sustainable practices.
