About the course
Upskill or get a head start on your degree with BSA528 Game Art & Design 1 Blended Delivery Course centered on designing and creating a 2D game in the Unity development environment.
This option is ideal for those who are working, have family commitments, are already in the creative or communications industry and want some gaming experience or simply want to get a taste of what SIT’s Screen Arts programme and Game Design is all about.
You will learn to:

This is a blended delivery paper that allows students to learn remotely. Some sessions will be instructor or student-led, while majority of the lessons will require self-study. You will need to attend at least one face-to-face session per week remotely every Friday.
Blended study will allow you to learn at your convenience without being on campus and at the same time form connections with those learning on-site.
BSA 528 Game Design 1
Build the skills and understanding required to produce a small 2D gaming project. You will develop an understanding of the 2D game development environment, learn to design game levels and create your world and characters by bringing them to life with immersive interactions and animation.
Students will develop the skills and understanding required to produce a small gaming project. Students will apply the principles of animation to a game production pipeline.
Students will learn:
- Basic project management skills; production pipeline procedures; manage multiple resources within a production environment.
- Design an introduction level to a game using visual storytelling, set production and lighting for user engagement; principles of animation to communicate the illusion of life; immersive user experience; understand limitations of practical movement and deformation; basic practical skills relating to character and environmental assets.
- Content and interactivity appropriate to end user motivations, critical analysis; documentation to drive project progression; basic practice-based research methodologies; investigation of relevant historical and contemporary practices.
Through blended delivery, you will have the opportunity to learn remotely. Majority of the content will be self-study; however, there will be opportunities to engage with your instructor as well as the on-site students. You will be required to attend at least one face-to-face session per week remotely every Friday. As schedule can be viewed in the Course Timetable section.
