About the course

If you have a degree in nursing, meet NCNZ criteria, have employer support and wish to become a registered nurse prescriber, this programme will equip you with advanced practice knowledge and critical analysis skills. You’ll spend time in independent study, critical reflection and field work in your place of study or place of work. Post graduate courses are designed to be studied one paper per semester (which is equivalent to approximately 20 hours per week of study). Please seek guidance if you'd like to complete two papers per semester. This programme is not open to international applicants. The programme is studied predominantly online, although some courses have compulsory onsite course days. Please check with your course lead during the enrolment process. This programme can be studied part-time up to four years. You’ll need to apply 4-8 weeks prior to course commencement to allow for processing. Entry requirements

What if English is not my first Language? Overall IELTS 6.5 Academic 6.5 Listening 6.5 Reading 6.5 Writing 6.5 Speaking If English is not your first language, we want to make sure that you will be successful in your chosen programme of study. Please provide a result from a test or qualification on the acceptable alternatives English Proficiency Outcomes Chart. If you are a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident, complete an Admission and Enrolment form and Ara will contact you regarding a free assessment. If you are not a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent resident, book an IELTS or other test through the Ara Examination Centre or in your home country. IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form and are valid for two years from the date of the test. What if I have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance? The English Language requirements for this programme are higher than the minimum set by NZQA, therefore; applicants who have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance may be required to provide evidence of English Language skills. If you do not meet the Academic entry criteria above, you may: provide evidence of having completed a relevant professional qualification; and provide evidence of successful completion of a relevant qualification or programme of study which is equivalent to those of first degree graduates, through the submission of a portfolio of evidence. Where preparation is sought for an endorsement, you must also: - be a Registered Nurse with a current Practising Certificate OR -be a Registered Midwife with a current Practicing Certificate. An undergraduate degree in a health science/health discipline or Postgraduate Certificate in Health Practice or equivalent
