Study and Career Preparation - Pre-Health Pathway, Level 4
NZQF Level 4

About the course

This programme is a pathway for the Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Midwifery, Bachelor of Musculoskeletal Health, Bachelor of Applied Science (in Human Nutrition or Health Promotion) and New Zealand Diploma in Wellness and Relaxation Massage. It covers a variety of subjects aimed at preparing you for higher level study in health and science, including human and microbial biology, cell biology and chemistry, maths and skills for academic study. All courses within this programme are available in Christchurch, Timaru and online.

Successful completion of this qualification does not guarantee entry to the pathway’s destination programme of study. Entry requirements for these programmes still apply and selection for some destination programmes is highly competitive.

Can be studied part-time up to 2 years.

Please note: In order to ensure you have the best chance of success in our maths courses, we require that you demonstrate a minimum level of maths knowledge before enrolling. This can be done using previous academic records (e.g. NCEA results) or through our entry testing process. The following Achievement Standards will not count towards Mathematics credits in this pathway: 91035, 91036, 91037, and 91038.

Please note:

  • If you’re studying pre-health in Semester 2 2023 and looking to follow it up with a Bachelor of Nursing in 2024, you can apply for any of the four intakes in Christchurch or the two in Timaru
  • If you’re studying pre-health in Semester 1 2024, you’ll need to apply for the August Bachelor of Nursing intake.

The Certificate will introduce you to health and science and prepare you for further study by developing your skills for academic study.
