About the course
In this hands-on programme you'll gain the skills required to carry out cellar work, supervise and mentor less experienced staff.
You will spend a large portion of your year developing your skills on placement. The programme provides opportunities for students to process grapes, manage vintage operations and carry out wine production processes.
This qualification is designed to support on-the-job training, this hands-on programme will give you the skills to carry out cellar work and build your knowledge to mentor and supervise staff. If you have already completed Level 3 you may apply to cross-credit the following first 4 courses:
- Communication and Team Building
- Winery Equipment
- Vintage Preparation
- Vintage Management
On completion of the programme, you will have the skills and knowledge to work independently as a cellar hand in a commercial wine making operation and supervise and train less experienced cellar staff.
Applicants under 20 years old
Achieved NCEA Level 2 – (credits in Numeracy, Science or English desirable).
Applicants 20 years or over
No minimum academic requirements.
English language requirements
You must have a level of English sufficient to be able to study at this level.
If your first language is not English you should have an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall Academic score of at least 5 issued within the last two years with no less than 5 in any band or equivalent.
Other requirements
This programme has aspects that require a certain level of physical strength and fitness. You must be physically capable of completing all aspects of the programme.
