Hairdressing is an invaluable skill that empowers you creatively.
Take the opportunity to learn from experienced tutors in a practical work setting. Be hands-on at our on-site salon or with local employers, whilst learning about the latest developments in the hairdressing industry.
The Nelson Head Zone hairdressing salon aims to mirror the atmosphere of a commercial salon to prepare our students for entering the hairdressing industry.
Successful graduates of the programme will be ready to progress to the New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing (Emerging Stylist)(external link) or enter the industry as a junior apprentice having completed a proportion of the unit standards required to gain the National Certificate in Hairdressing Practice (Level 4).
NMIT is also involved in apprenticeship training.
Every year, we take the top 10 students from across the programmes to join us in Wellington at the World of WearableArt Awards Show.
Students get the chance to work at the event and experience the breadth of work that is available to skilled stylists.
There are plenty of opportunities to allow your creativity to shine throughout the programme through competitions and events.
