About the scholarship
The Weta Digital PhD Scholarship in Computer Graphics has been established by Weta Digital to further its commitment to growing the film industry in Wellington. The partnership between Weta Digital and Victoria University, including the close collaboration with both the Computer Science and Graphic Design Faculty, will serve as a foundation for the ongoing development of future technical artists and research scientists in New Zealand. Weta Digital has a history of innovation and research on the core principles of computer graphics, computer vision, computer sciences and wider scientific exploration that is leveraged for the creation of increasingly realistic visual effects. The Scholarship is designed to attract candidates that can provide world-class expertise to the University and wider CG community and whose work can see real-world application by Weta Digital.

- New PhD applicants should complete the PhD Admission and Scholarship online application available on the link below and clearly indicate they wish to apply for the Weta Digital Scholarship in Computer Graphics. http://www.victoria.ac.nz/fgr/prospective-phds/applying.aspx
- Applications will be considered by a panel consisting of representatives from both Weta and Victoria University. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate focus on subject areas of interest to the growth of computer graphics with a specific emphasis on application to visual effects.
Entry requirements
Any applicant, who is pursuing a subject area that fits into the core topics outlined in the Scholarship description and who has relevant experience, will be considered. It is expected that successful applicants will be working on a thesis with direct relevance to Weta Digital’s research interests. Further, it is expected that the applicant will work in direct partnership with Weta Digital and may spend time at Weta Digital during their PhD degree program.
