About the scholarship
The research done by Victoria University's Chair in the Economics of Disasters and his postgraduate student team is focussed on many aspects of disasters, including disasters' short- and long-term impact on economic activity, in particular on income distribution and poverty, on fiscal spending and revenue, and on employment and prices. Policy questions related to optimal prevention and mitigation policy in a disaster's aftermath are also critically evaluated. Other work includes projects evaluating the connection between disasters and climate change scenarios, and comparing between recent catastrophic events in Japan, Thailand, New Zealand, China, and Vietnam. Previous projects have also included research on disasters in the United States, and in Chile.
Applicants must be well-trained, empirically bent students with an interest in insurance markets, agricultural or health economics, and/or economic geography.

Entry requirements
A Master Degree in Economics (or a related discipline) is required. Good knowledge of STATA or GIS is preferable.
