About the scholarship

We are seeking a Masters student to assist with a MBIE funded Smart Idea project, exploring commercialisation pathways for next-generation bio-materials. The Masters project will conceptualise an equitable business model incorporating indigenous IP, mātauranga, taonga, kaitiakitanga and data-sovereignty, and define a commercial pathway for biomaterials developed in the research project, incorporating tangata whenua and tangata Tiriti values and accounting for scientific, cultural and commercial aspects of the project. In liaison with expert advisors and an experienced Māori supervisor, the project will develop the business model by drawing on literature and related research, with the potential for additional interviews.

Entry requirements

The student needs a minimum degree qualification and/or experience in Māori business or management. Applicants must be already enrolled in Semester two of 2025 but are able to pivot to this topic, or to enrol in Semester one of 2026.
