About the scholarship
Supports BNurs students who are passionate about pursuing a career in nursing and are experiencing personal challenges or disadvantage, including financial and family circumstances. The Southern Cross Nursing Scholarship for University of Waikato was established in 2025 by the Southern Cross Health Trust and Southern Cross Healthcare to support the development, education, and leadership of the nursing profession in Aotearoa New Zealand. Southern Cross Healthcare recognises the essential role of nurses in both the public and private healthcare system and seeks to address challenges students may face while pursuing a Bachelor of Nursing.
Entry requirements
Each year, three scholarships will be available to new-to-study domestic students enrolling full-time towards a Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Waikato. The scholarship is valued at $10,000 per year for up to three years and includes extension learning opportunities and the opportunity to engage with Southern Cross Healthcare. For 2026 only, six scholarships will also be offered to current Bachelor of Nursing students for their second and third year of study. Recipients entering their second year will be awarded a two-year scholarship valued at $20,000, while those entering their third year will receive a one-year scholarship valued at $10,000. The selection process includes interviews. Applications for Round 1 (second and third year applicants) closed 31 October 2025. Applications for Round 2 (new-to-study applicants) close 31 January 2026. Please ensure you read the regulations before you commence the application process.
