About the scholarship
Thanks to funding received through the Matatā Initiative and Engineering New Zealand we are offering a massive 8 scholarships each worth $5,000.
Applications close 5pm Monday 17 March, 2025.
If you're Māori and in your first year of a Bachelor of Engineering at any tertiary institute in Aotearoa, you're elligible to apply.
Successful recipients will be able to demonstrate a commitment to Māori engagement in engineering through extra curricular activities and leadership in hāpori or marae.
Applications are expected to be registered with Pūhoro's tertiary support programme, Te Urunga Pae. If you aren't already a part of the kaupapa, you can register through your scholarship application.
What is the Matatā Initiative?
The Matata Initiative, set up through the generosity of Dick Earle and his late wife Mary, aspires to support more Māori and Pasifika young people into professional careers in engineering and technology.
In 2023, the Engineering New Zealand Foundation launched the Matata Initiative, funded by the Professors Earle. The express purpose of the initiative is to lift the numbers of Māori and Pasifika young people who undertake four-year degrees in engineering or technology and go on to launch professional careers in those industries.
