About the scholarship
The Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship is open to all subject areas and was established in 2005 in honour of New Zealand's greatest adventurer. This prestigious scholarship is awarded to well-rounded individuals who excel in three key pillars: Academic achievement, Sporting or creative and performing art abilities, and Leadership potential. Recipients, known as Hillary Scholars, are supported to thrive in academia and leadership while pursuing their passion for sport or the arts. Up to 25 scholarships are awarded annually, with a total value of up to $30,000 per recipient.
Entry requirements
This scholarship is designed for school leavers who plan to enrol full-time (120 points) in an undergraduate degree. Applicants must have achieved NCEA Level 2 with Merit (or equivalent) and demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities alongside active participation in community initiatives. Applicants taking a gap year in the year of application remain eligible, provided they have achieved at least Merit (or equivalent) at both NCEA Level 2 and NCEA Level 3.
