About the scholarship
The scholarship is awarded annually to a New Zealand School of Music (NZSM) violin, viola and violoncello student who is enrolling in, or currently undertaking undergraduate study at NZSM. The scholarship aims to support students in their first year of university. This scholarship was established through the Victoria University of Wellington Foundation from a generous bequest made by Barbara Finlayson. The first awards were made at the end of 1997 to postgraduate students.
Entry requirements
Applicants must be violin, viola, or violoncello students who are intending to enrol or are currently enrolled in an undergraduate programme at the New Zealand School of Music. The scholarship is available to both domestic and international students. Selection is based on academic achievement and demonstrated musical ability. Required documentation includes a personal statement outlining reasons for applying for the scholarship, a reference from an academic, supervisor or music teacher, and details of your most recent academic results.
