Fleur Knowsley Law Scholarship

Applicants must be current 100 or 200 level Law students, and intending to enroll full time at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington in 200 or 300 level Law, in a minimum of 50% law papers. Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents. All offers of the Scholarship will be conditional upon the recipient gaining entry into 200-level Law. Preference will be given to applicants who come from a diverse or minority background. Preference will also be given to applicants demonstrating disadvantage. (Definition of “Disadvantage”: A disadvantaged student is “one who, despite facing significant obstacles, has prepared himself or herself for a university education.” The types of disadvantage which qualify a student for the Fleur Knowsley Law Scholarship are economic, educational and social). The following are a few examples of circumstances which may qualify as evidence of disadvantage: - Coming from a low-income, single-parent or rurally-isolated family environment. - Coming from a family which was partially or wholly dependent upon government assistance. - Coming from a family in which few or no members have attended university. - Attending a low-decile school or which had a high dropout rate - Attending a primary or secondary school whose student body was comprised of 50 percent or greater minority students. - Being raised in a family environment in which English was a second language.
