About the scholarship
This scholarship was established by family and friends of Emerita Professor Lydia Wevers, ONZM, in association with the Stout Research Centre for New Zealand Studies, to encourage research into New Zealand's history, cultures and society. Lydia passed away on 4 September 2021 and was an internationally renowned literary historian and critic, teacher, writer, and scholar who specialised in New Zealand studies. This scholarship is intended to assist with costs associated with pursuing a Master's research degree in any research topic related to New Zealand/Aotearoa.
Entry requirements
The scholarship shall be awarded annually to a part-time or full-time Master's by thesis student studying in any research topic related to New Zealand/Aotearoa. Students who are intending to transfer to Te Herenga Waka–Victoria University from other universities are eligible to apply. This scholarship is open to domestic students (residents or citizens of NZ). The scholarship will be awarded primarily based on academic merit and the ability of the University to supervise the proposed research. Where there is difficulty in distinguishing between applicants, financial need may be considered. A completed online application must be submitted by 4:30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4:30 pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.
