About the scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage and enable more deaf students to achieve a tertiary qualification by studying at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington. The Scholarship was gifted by Sir Roy McKenzie to commemorate the centennial of Victoria University of Wellington in 1999.
Entry requirements
Applicants must have hearing loss of 70 DB or greater in better ear (i.e. severely deaf). Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate programme at second year or above, or be doing a postgraduate programme. Any field of study will be considered, but at postgraduate level preference will be given to study in a field that contributes in some way to the development of deaf people. Successful applicants will have a proven record of academic ability and the potential to benefit from the proposed course of study. Required supporting documentation includes a copy of the most recent audiogram or other verification of hearing loss and a personal statement with any information to support the application.
