About the scholarship
For promising students majoring in industrial design at undergraduate level or in industrial design and its related fields at postgraduate level. This scholarship is supported by research fees accumulated by former staff member and Emeritus Professor Tony Parker, Professor in Industrial Design, during his tenure at Massey University's College of Creative Arts. Professor Parker's Industrial Design research practice focused on aesthetically driven affective product design. This included product desirability, usability, experience, branding and innovation for improved user satisfaction. Research concentrated on strategically defining and integrating distinct, and aesthetically innovative, affective product attributes for agricultural, automotive and security products intended for global niche markets. His enduring collaboration with Gallagher Industries resulted in numerous commercially successful and international design award winning products.
Entry requirements
Applicants for the Tony Parker Scholarship in Industrial Design must be:
- New Zealand citizens or permanent residents
- Enrolled or intending to enrol full time at the College of Creative Arts, Wellington
- Undergraduate applicants need to be majoring in Industrial Design (Hons) with a GPA of 7.5 or above in their previous year of study
- Postgraduate applicants need to be ready to pursue an industrial design or related research project with a GPA of 7.5 or above in their undergraduate studies.
Include the following with your application:
- 500 words about your experience as a student, aspirations as an industrial designer and how this award will help you achieve your goals, including how it may help you overcome any economic obstacles to your studies
- a small portfolio (no more than five A4 pages) of examples of your work, including illustrations, models and prototypes that indicate your abilities in visualisation and form-giving
- if you are external to Massey, please upload a written reference from a referee who can validate the strength of your application
