About the scholarship

The Toioho Ki Apiti Undergraduate Scholarship is aimed at students enrolled in the Bachelor of Māori Visual Arts. This 4-year degree focuses on the visual expressions of mana whakapapa, mana tiriti, mana whenua, and mana tangata, introducing students to various forms of art including sculpture, installation, painting, digital media, and photography. Students will also study Te Reo Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and Māori Culture electives. We are looking for applicants who are passionate about contemporary Māori arts.

Entry requirements

Include the following with your application:

  • 4–10 images of your artwork
  • a personal statement (around 300 words) about your interest in contemporary Māori arts, what studying at Toioho ki Āpiti means to you
  • a brief statement on your future goals and how these relate to your study
  • a copy of your High School results. This should be your NCEA Level 3 results or equivalent
  • a reference from a teacher, community leader, gallery director, or kaumātua (optional but encouraged)
